Project Relevance | To discuss how to face biological hazards, climate change and health adaptation strategies in informal settlements and vulnerable communities

Project Purposes | (1) To develop and to disseminate innovative design strategies . (2) To outline design guidelines.

Methodology | (1) Participatory approach with local communities and the support of a local association and of the Department of Housing of the Municipality of Seixal . (2) Case study in Santa Marta dos Corroios, Seixal, in the metropolitan area of Lisbon . (3) Comparative approach with Bhopal (India).

Results | (1) 2 Webinars in Bhopal, one in September 2022 (to meet local partners from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology/MANIT, school of Architecture and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis and to carry technical and social surveys and interviews on Architecture and Covid) and another in September 2023 ongoing (to present and discuss project outputs) . (2) 2 Webinars in Santa Marta de Corroios, Seixal, one in October 2022 (to meet Department of Housing of the Municipality of Seixal and to work with the local association of residents in Santa Marta to carry technical and social surveys and interviews with the community).

Results Impact | Social Contributing to reduce potential impacts of climate change, to mitigate and to prepare for natural hazards as well as to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and further contagious airborne diseases in slum and deprived areas . Academic Enlarging this discussion in the academic world in architecture and urbanism (1 book, 1 book chapter, 1 paper, 1 journal special number organization) . Inter-national context Disseminating consciousness on this discussion (1 interview, at May 14 2021, on the upgrading of self-produced neighborhoods and on the mitigation of natural hazard and prevention of COVID-19 in the online journal, A mensagem de Lisboa).
